I wanted to make sure that you were all aware of some campus events coming up in the next couple weeks:
The debate club will be having a debate on Friday May 30th at the Center Stage in the Whipple building starting at noon and ending at 1 pm. The topic is, "Should Oregon open primary voting so that unaffiliated voters are able to participate." Two of our tutors are heading opposite sides of the debate: Tyler Cheek will argue for the proposal and Susie Day will argue against the proposal. I am encouraging you all to show up and give your support to our Success Center co-workers.
Our student government (ASUCC) is hosting the annual Spring Fever event also on May 30th. Spring Fever will start at noon and end at 5 pm. ASUCC is looking for some volunteers to help with the Spring Fever event. If anyone is able to help, please contact Susie Day or another student government representative. If you volunteer your time, you will receive a free tee-shirt as a "thank you" for your time.
Last weekend ASUCC held their sixth annual dodge-ball tournament. Our Success Team was able to come in second place behind the National Guard team. The second place prize was a $75 gift card for Abby's Legendary Pizza.
- E-Mails: Regularly (multiple times per week) check your student email account and any other e-mail address that you provided to the Success Center. If you receive an e-mail from a Success Center staff member I need you to respond to it promptly. Also, remember to log into G-Chat when you clock on to tutor.
- Tutoring Blog: Each employee needs to read and post a response to the tutoring blog by the end of each week that a blog is published. I will send e-mails out with a reminder of the web address for the blog (SuccessCenterTutoring.blogspot.com).
- Student Bank Entries: Each day that you work in the Success Center we need each employee to record three entries (deposits/withdraws) to the student bank. These entries need to be interactions with UCC students that go beyond your typical day-to-day interactions.
- Weekly Reflection Form: Fill out the reflection forms when they are e-mailed out to you on Friday's and have the previous week's completed form e-mailed to me. I sent out the first reflection form this Monday, May 19th, which should reflect your experience during this term so far, however the reflection forms going forward will be based on the events of the previous weeks. Please spend some time to provide quality responses on the reflection forms. I will start scheduling the one-on-one follow-up meetings for next week.
Question:
If knowledge is half the battle, Can anyone tell me what the other half is?
Whoop whoop!! Congrats to all of us!!! Keep on keeping on guys! The pizza party is going to be fun!! Be sure to show up!
ReplyDeleteIn reply to the question: Putting it to good use.
ReplyDeleteKnowledge and action go hand in hand and, when combined, the result is often more than the sum of its parts.
ReplyDelete::struts in with brilliant answer, sees that Ian and Jason beat him to the punch, shuffles out deflated::
ReplyDeleteSince we're the Success Center, I think the second half of the battle is to figure out how to share our knowledge with our peers.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations everybody! Keep up the good work! See you all on Friday!
ReplyDeleteKnowledge is half the battle, and I would say that determination is the other half, because knowledge gives you the 'how', but determination gives the 'fight'.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations in the dodge ball tournament! I look forward to the debate and "GO" Tyler and Susie, although they are on opposite sides. I'm super excited for Spring Fever, always a fun time! Finally, thanks Daniel for the overview reminder of what we tutors have to do each week.
ReplyDeleteI am excited for that pizza party! Great job everybody on their work this term in the Success Center! If knowing is half the battle, I would have to agree and say that applying the knowledge is the other half.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know there was going to be a debate, that is good information to have. Also, I am excited for pizza. I cannot believe we have seen 1000 people come through the doors, wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt is going to be a very busy day this Friday with Spring Fever and Phi Theta Kappa Induction so I will not be able to attend the debate this time around. But good luck to our tutors and have a great week everyone!
ReplyDeleteThe DodgeFathers be Killin it. We did an awesome job even though we were the first losers, but it was a lot of fun and can't wait to take first place next time. I am really excited for the pizza party because I think we all deserve it. I may need some emails from certain people but all in all thanks for the updates. And I agree with Nathan I can't even compete, but I believe the other half of the battle is using that knowledge.
ReplyDeleteGood job to everyone that has worked hard this term. The DodgeFathers did a good job placing second. Also, congrats to everyone for over 1000 visits! That is a large number of students. Keep up the good work and remember summer is only two weeks away!
ReplyDeletegood job and congratulations all! how did the debate go? I second that we earned the pizza party. I'd say we also deserve a success party for over 1000 visitors this term for the first time.
ReplyDeleteAction is the other half, Daniel!
